The Question
I want to answer the question; Is the RTX 5090 worth the money?
If you are planning on using a GPU for productivity like CAD, Video editing, or anything along those lines, I cant answer your Questions here sorry. This is more of a cost analysis from a gamers perspective.
Gamers lets get into it; First lets answer the questions; How much is the a 5090?
New at micro center you can find the PNY RTX 5090 for 2500$ plus tax. This is the cheapest I have seen new.
If you are comfortable buying used, I checked that and due to the demand and how new this card is you will be hard pressed to find anything and nothing at the 2500$ price point.
Now that we established the price lets get into the details.
Are you gaming?
I think asking yourself, what am I going to use the RTX 5090 for, is a good place to start. If you are building a gaming pc for example, does it have to be a 5090?
What’s the budget on the PC?
Are you gaming in 4K?
Do you have a 4k monitor that will display the 5090 “insane” graphics?
If you answered no to the last 2 questions this card is not worth it, unless you plan to upgrade your whole set up.
If you answered yes to the last two questions let dive into it.
Here are the technical specs on the 5090 compared to AMD’s 7900 xtx and the last gen RTX 4090.

| TDP | 575W | 450W | 355W |
| Lowest price: New | 2500 $ | 2490 $ | 900 $ |
Lets be honest, if you’re a gaming do the tech specs really matter? No, what matters to every gamer through the ages is the sweet three letter acronym “FPS” . Lets take a look at that, using some of the best games of the last decade. I’ll even give you a cost per FPS with each card. The CPU being used was a Ryzen 9800 X3D for the below results. The results are for 2K ultra settings, if you are looking for 4K gaming buy the 5090. Something else I want to point out here, the “Cost per AVG FPS” is just the GPU, this does not include the cost of the MB, CPU, RAM, PSU, and SSD. (all the parts needed to actually get FPS)
Cost per AVG FPS
| AVG FPS by Game | RTX 5090 | RTX 4090 | RX 7900 XTX |
| Cyperpunk 2077: PL | 181 | 137 | 120 |
| Marvel Rivals | 155 | 119 | 100 |
| Starfield | 125 | 120 | 93 |
| AVG FPS | 154 | 125 | 104 |
| Cost per AVG FPS | 16.24 $ | 19.92$ | 8.65$ |
The Answer
Times for the moment you’ve all been waiting for; is the RTX 5090 worth the money. In my opinion, YES and now it’s time for the hate. Before you go off in the comments let me explain.
The Explanation
If you have a current PC setup that can handle 4K gaming, your monitor, CPU, and RAM. Then yes topping you rig off with an RTX 5090 would be and excellent choice. It would give you longevity with the system and allow you to game in 4k for another 3-5 years. Something else to think about if you are building a 4k rig is the price to performance. Buying the RTX 4090 is not worth it on average you are spending 3.68$ more per FPS at current prices. In short if you have the money for a high end rig spend it on the 5090.
Here is my caveat, If you are looking to build a top of line budget pc. 2000$ is the very top of your budget, buy the RX 7900 XTX. It will give you amazing performance for games in 2k just by adjusting a few setting. Plus if you’re already running a 2k monitor and any AM5 Ryzen 7 you’re pretty much all set.
The Conclusion
If you are looking to build an epic 4k gaming PC and don’t mind spending the cash buy the RTX 5090.
If you are on a budget but still want a high-end PC that will have some longevity buy the RTX 7900 XTX. (If you’re comfortable buying these used you can find even better deals)
Thank for making it to the end of this “in depth analyses”. All the amazon link used in the article do benefit me and this channel and are not always the cheapest option.
I also wanted to provide the links for the FPS.
